What even is this?

Finally someone with the guts to post their opinions on the internet.

In another life, there was a Tim Brusveen dot com much like this one. Well, kind of like it. It was filled with the self-assured arrogance of an early 20’s manchild who knew he was just one more good tweet away from having his own column in Sports Illustrated. No one had yet explained to him that nobody reads anymore and providing unsolicited, mostly uninformed opinions on the internet was a market pretty well saturated both then and now.

I’m older now than I was then. Because that’s how time works. It’s been almost ten years since The Tim Chronicles or The Option Read or TVGuy’d (would have received a cease and desist for that one if anyone other than my dad read it) or whatever other pet project I was working on that month, graced the internet.

But seriously folks turns chair around to sit backwards to really jive with the youth this is for no one. I don’t even know how you found this. Maybe you’re my wife who is being forced to read this because I’m sitting right next to her (is the baby still asleep?) Maybe I sent it to you in a group chat and you’re being polite. Thanks for that. Maybe you’re a student who Googled my name and this came up. Hello student, there won’t be much here for you to blackmail me with. I guess I’m an English teacher so I should probably say “with which to blackmail me.” Maybe I have really achieved my long-awaited dream of celebrity blogger and you’re my one millionth site visitor. This has been reposted as a retrospective of how far we’ve come together. If so thanks, I couldn’t have done it without all my adoring fans.

Something I wish someone would have told me when I was younger is: “shut up for a while.” Not just on the internet, in general. My mom always said I was a good writer and some of my stories made my friends laugh but the reason I never reached the pinnacle of the blogosphere at 24 was because no one really cares about what a 24-year-old thinks about anything. At least they shouldn’t. Make no mistake, no one really cares what a 35-year-old thinks about anything either, I’m surprised you’re still reading. Yet, in the intervening years I have acquired some additional knowledge and perspective. I’ve been a teacher for seven years. I’m married. I have a kid. I’ve watched a ton more sports. I’ve seen way more shows. Knowledge that at least makes a space like this for rambling incoherence a little bit more tolerable.

So what even is this? Still nothing. Quite honestly, I’ve found myself with a little extra time at work because I know what I’m doing and don’t spend hours planning and nervous vomiting anymore. I also needed an alternative for the endless scroll that started to consume my brain. So I met back up with an old friend. The blogosphere. I have no goal in mind, no number of posts per week, no plans to start a social media campaign to bring my message to the masses, just a place to say some stuff about things here and there.

Thanks for reading-

TB
